IBADAN—TWO men were Tuesday convicted for breaking into the residence of the former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, late Bola Ige and stealing property worth N20million.

They were sentenced to one year imprisonment by a magistrate court in Ibadan after being found guilty of the count charge preferred against them. They were given no option of fine by the court.

The convicted men are Felix Nwagwu (30 years) and Olajide Olumo (36). The men were guards in the residences of late Ige and his son, Muyiwa Ige at the time of  the crime.

They were charged with conspiracy to steal, entering with intention of stealing and stealing of properties of the late legal icon.
Sofiat Oyediran, the magistrate, said the court sentenced them owing to the evidences before it.

Nwagwu was a guard at the Bodija residence of late Ige, while Oluwo was a guard in Muyiwa’s residence.

They had been standing trial for the past three years for the crime. Muyiwa was grateful to the court for the judgment  saying “I appreciate the magistrate for a well researched judgement. That will send a message to criminals that crime does not pay. Though we had hoped for a harsher judgment, the fact that the  accused persons have been convicted and sent to prison will teach them lessons,”.
