ASABA—THE much publicised South-South rally by the Atiku Abubakar Campaing Organisation billed to hold in Asaba, Delta State capital,Wednesday, flopped as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, General Ibrahim Banbangida, Prof Charles Soludo, Prof. Tam David-West and hosts of others expected to grace the occasion did not show up .
The commencement of the rally, which was scheduled for 11am but did not take off until about 4.30pm, when the organisers called it off as there was no sign of the political big wigs showing up at Oshimili South Local Government Area arcade, venue of the rally.
Senator Ben Obi, Prof. Sam Oyovbaire, Prof Soludo and Prof Daivid-West, according to the programme, were listed to deliver campaign speeches.
Disappointed, supporters who turned up at 8 am grumbled home when the organisers announced that the even had been called off.
It was gathered that Alhaji Abubakar did not attend the rally because it was rescheduled to a date which will be announced later.
According to his spokesman, Alhaji Garba Shehu, Atiku could not have shunned a rally in which he was the organiser. The chief host for the rally, retired Wing Commander Peter Biakpara and the National Co-ordinator of Atiku Abubankar Support Group, Mr. Aneke Ifemeni, however, offered apologies to the supporters as they dispersed.
Security men were however on the ground .
