IN the spirit of demystifying the spectre of the HIV & AIDS epidemic, the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, UDUTH and the Institute of Human Virology of Nigeria, IHVN have enrolled up to 519 people and tested a total of 2, 977 people.
Administration Manager of IHVN, Mallam Bashir Hussaini disclosed this at a panel discussion organised by UDUTH/IHVN – ACTION HIV & AIDS Project in conjunction with Women and Children Welfare Clinic and MPHC Dange, Wednesday in Sokoto.
According to Hussaini, “While of the 519, 207 were males and 312 females, of the 2977 people tested, 1490 were males among who were 200 male children while 1487 were females among who were 188 female children.
“Those tested positive were 256 males among who were 45 male children and 438 females among who were 64 children,” Hussaini added.
He called on the Federal, States and Local governments to engage people within with HIV/AIDs in skills acquisition programmes.
A discussant, Dr. Bamaiyi Adamu from Antiretroviral Therapy unit of the Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching noted that “One of the greatest challenges of tackling HIV & AIDS is that there are those who live with it and those who live on it. Those who live with HIV& AIDS suffer whereas those who live on it enjoy.
