Coach of the senior national team, Samson Siasia has since resumed duty and the manner he has begun smacks of a man with a mission. The gaffer has already mapped out his programme and is expected to travel out to Europe for a first time contact with some of his influential players in foreign leagues.
According to reports, the former Flying Eagles coach is bent on injecting new blood into the Eagles believing that the much needed verve and brilliance will brought back to bear in the team.
Siasia’s train starts from December 12, in Turkey where Eagles skipper, Yobo Joseph is plying his trade. The two are supposed to meet. Apart from Yobo, the Eagles coach will also parley with other Nigerian stars in Turkey, including one Emmanuel Emeneke who plays for Turkish first division side, Karabukspor.
A day after, the Bayelsa state-born gaffer moves to London where the likes of John Obi Mikel, Osaze Odemwinge, Victor Obinna Nsofor, Yakubu Aigbeni, John Utaka and influential former skipper of the team, Nwankwo Kano are playing.
Conversant with the demands of his duties, Siasia also has on the cards a proposal for an international friendly with the Italian national team, Azurris. Should this pull through, the coach will receive a lot of accolades from his countrymen and women who are tired of watching the Eagles engage third rated teams in friendly matches.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation has pledged total commitment to ensuring the coach succeeds in his new job. President of the Federation, Aminu Maigari assured that while the Glass House was ready with all the finances required to settle the salaries of the coach and his assistants, the federation would not interfere in Siasia’s job.
“We will give him all the cooperation and the enabling environment he requires to succeed. What we want from him is action,”Maigari assured.
