SENATE President and Speaker of the House of Representatives, have been called upon to save the Itsekiri ethnic nation from what is perceived as an orchestrated marginalisation by the minister in charge of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.
Speaking to Vanguard, Tuesday, in a telephone chat, the Chairman of the Itsekiri Regional Development Committee, IRDC, Mr. Mofe Pirah, said that from every indication, “the Itsekiri nation will be in for a very hard time, which will endlessly be characterised by alienation and deprivation of projects and other benefits that should accrue to the people from the ministry as long as Elder Godsdey Orubebe remains in charge of the ministry.”
Reacting to sections of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs of 2011 draft budget, recently presented to the National Assembly by President Jonathan, Pirah noted that after perusing the draft , which was made available to him, in the Warri Federal Constituency office, he was shocked to find that in the section, which outlined the proposals from the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, not a single project was proposed for anywhere in Itsekiri land.
