Experience woman golfer Evelyn Oyome was the cynosure of all eyes as she stepped up to pick up a giant trophy as overall winner of the 36th Ikoyi Ladies Open. She picked up two others to emerge the star of the three-day tournament.
Oyome would also have her name engraved on the winners’ podium of the club house for her feat. The ageless player replaced Uloma Mbuko, the winner of the annual tournament in 2009.
Mbuko is training in South Africa presently prior to becoming Nigeria’s number one woman professional golfer.Speaking shortly after taking the winners prize, at the well-attended Prize presentation ceremony at the upper terrace of the Ikoyi Club 1938 (Golf Section), Oyome informed that she was destined to lift the gross event trophy.
Oyome actually won in style grossing a two-day total of 163. She started off with 79 but slumped to 84 on day 2.
six shots separated her from her closest rival, Valentine Matthew who grossed 169 total.
Oyome also won the Nearest to the pin day 1 and day 2.
Other winners are Petra Pinotsis (171) and Hannah Obadina who grossed 180 for 4th place.
In the nett event Ded Fahrer carted home the top prize shooting 147 in two days.
she was followed by Selena Hainworth (148) and Helen Ayo (150) for the runner up and 3rd places. Lady captain of the club, Tima Animashaun was full of praises for sponsors, committee members and friends that made the tournament a success.
“It is not easy putting things like this together but i can conveniently say that i have people who have made it possible for this to be successful. i thank them all”.
She said she was happy with turnout of members and guest.Top dignitaries present at the Gala night are; Adm Toye Sode, chairman of Ikoyi Club, Ibidapo Akande, captain Ikoyi Club Golf Section, Mrs Bola Cusworth, former lady captain of the section, Mrs Bukola Kupolokun and numerous others.
