Holy Ghost Congress opens today

By Sam Eyoboka and Olayinka Latona
THE sprawling Redemption Camp of the Redeemed Christian Church of God along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, is already bursting with activities as thousands of visitors have started trooping in for the commencement of the 13th edition of the Holy Ghost Congress, an annual  spiritual retreat instituted by the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye as part of his transformation of the church that started as a 12-member group then known as Egbe Ogo Oluwa (Glory of God Society.).

Our reporter who visited the Camp  said thousands of people have started arriving the city for the annual end of year event which began on December 18, 1998 as a one-day event at an open space in Lekki, Lagos. The theme for the maiden edition was ‘Divine Visitation’.

The theme of this year’s Holy Ghost Congress is ‘All Will Be Well’ and Pastror Adeboye in his Welcome Address to participants, has expressed delight to receive them for another season of refreshing in the presence of the Lord.
“We thank God for keeping you these you these past 12 months and for letting you celebrate this year’s Congress with your family and trhe people of God,” he declared.

Assuring participants of a rewarding period, he said the Lord has assured us that whatever you may have gone through or be going through right now, things are about to turn out beautifully for you, All you need to do is believe the Lord and trust in His word. He is ever faithfaul to perform His word.”

In an exclusive interview with Vanguard on Friday, Pastor Adeboye promised that this year’s Congress would be the greatest in recent history, saying it would be an unforgetable moment for those who will avail themselves of the opportunity.

Addressing a delegation of Vanguard Media Limited top management staff including Vanguard Editor, Mr. Mideno Bayagbon, AGM, Brands, Mr. Fred Udueme, Circulation Manager, Mr. Temisan Amuka, Corporate Affairs Manager, Mr. Victor Omoregie and the co-ordinator of the Vanguard Staff Christian Fellowship, Elder Emmanuel Obuh that paid him a Thank You visit in his house, Pastor Adeboye said: “I think I can tell you categorically that this is going to be the greatest congress we have had thus far.

Again, I don’t know all the details because the Holy Spirit moves whichever direction, He wants to move, but I think this is one Congress nobody would forget in a hurry. I know that one for sure.”

He was full of hope that God would move in an unprecendented manner that particpants would not forget in a hurry.
There were assurances from the church that there will be free flow of traffic during the 6-day event as adequate arrangements have been put in place to guarantee that.
