THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Enugu State, Friday, concluded its fresh congresses with the election of a 29-man State Executive Committee led by a former Commissioner for Establishment , Hon. Caesar Okey Ogbonna from Udenu Local Government Area as State Chairman.

At the state congress held at MacDavos Hotel, Enugu and supervised by officials of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the 798 delegates and 29 aspirants for various elective positions in the state also declared their unflinching support for the presidential ambition of Goodluck Jonathan and the National Chairman of the party, Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo.

Also elected were Ejike Nwobodo, Deputy Chairman; Mr. Oyibo Chukwu, State Secretary; Mr. Harrison Ogara, State Publicity Secretary; Mrs. Mary Ozaffia, Woman Leader; Christian Iyiani, Youth Leader; Stephen Odoh, Auditor; Peter Egwuatu, Ex-Officio Member; Stephen Okenna, Organizing Secretary and Goddy Ozonna, Treasurer.

Among leaders of the party in the state present at the congress were former Governor of old Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwobodo, Presidential Adviser on Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, former Minister of Information, Chief Nnia Nwodo, Chief Barr. Okey Ezea, Chief Ugochukwu Agballah,  Chief Anayo Onwuegbu and Prince Sam Ejiofor.

However, the congresses which commenced on Wednesday at the Ward level was concluded yesterday despite reports that  leaders of the two warring factions of the party in the state had at a peace meeting convened by President Goodluck Jonathan at Abuja agreed to harmonize the state executive committee.

The two parties were also said to have agreed to suspend the fresh congresses but the faction loyal to Nwodo insisted on holding the congresses at the Ward, Local Government and State levels, giving the impression that the peace move may have collapsed before the implementation.

Governor Sullivan Chime and members of his faction including the State and National Assembly members from the state were absent at yesterday’s congress.
