The Federal Government has stated that the 2010 budget implementation had been extended till March 2011. The Minister of Information and Communications, Prof. Dora Akunyili, made the clarification while briefing State House correspondents following the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
The meeting which held at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa was presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan. Akunyili said FEC would continue to award contracts and monitor implementation of the 2010 budget till the end of March 2011 contrary to the Dec. 15 deadline earlier proposed. She added that the annual tradition of refund of unspent budgetary allocations to federal treasury by MDAs would not apply this year.
“For the sake of clarifications, we now have till the end of March 2011 to execute the 2010 budget,” she said. Meanwhile, FEC approved N17.179 billion for the construction of Oturkpo multi-purpose dam in Benue. Akunyili said the contract for the construction of the dam was given in favour of Messrs SCC Nigeria Ltd. with 36 months completion period.
She said the dam was designed to meet multifarious needs of flood control, irrigation, hydro-power generation and water supply to Otukpo and nine neighbouring communities in the state. The minister said the Council also approved contract for the direct procurement of two Bell Helicopters for $7.013 million.
