Osogbo—Osun state Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, has advised the Senate President, Senator David Mark to drop the toga of arrogance and behave like a statesman by virtue of his position as number three citizen of the country.
Governor Aregbesola, while reacting to a statement credited to the Senate President that the Osun State Governor should be taught how to be decorous in the use of language.
The Governor had, last week while receiving some religious leaders in Ilesa, his home town, alleged that about a billion naira had been set aside by Senator Iyiola Omisore, Senator Mark and the Vice President Namadi Sambo to destabilise the state.
Senator Mark, in his reaction, asked Mr. Aregbesola to retract the statement immediately or be prepared to face legal action.
However, in a statement by the Head of Media and Publicity to Governor Aregbesola, Mr. Gbenga Fayemiwo in Osogbo yesterday, Governor Aregbesola queried the basis of a meeting held in Osogbo early in the month between the Senate President and members of the state House of Assembly.
His said: “We have read the response of Senator David Mark on the plans being orchestrated to destabilise Osun State and wish to advise him that it is time he behaved like a statesman which the exalted office of the President of Senate demands of him.
“Senator Mark should tell the world why he held a nocturnal meeting with four principal of the Osun State House of Assemblyon December 1, 2010 in Abuja.”
We like to ask from the Senate President to explain the basis of his relationship with Senator Iyiola Omisore on the political life of Osun State since Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola became Governor.
“The Nigerian people demand from the President of Senate decorum, civility, and circumspection at all times both in his public and private lives. We know that retired Brigadier_General David Mark is notorious for coup planning, coup execution and such other conspiratorial anti_people, anti_constitution and anti_democratic acts. He should be reminded that we are in a democratic, civilian setting which demands high degree of decency, integrity and high honours.”
