ABUJA—The Chairman of the National Task Force to combat illegal importation and smuggling of goods, small arms, Ammunitions and light weapons, NATFORCE, Major General Collins Ihekire (Rtd), has been relieved of his appointment.

The President of Importers Association of Nigeria, IMAN, Chief Emmanuel Okereke, who announced the sacking at a briefing, said part of the reasons for the sack of Ihekire includes his non-commitment to the aims, ideals and aspiration for setting up the Task Force.

He said also that Ihekire’s recent appointment as the Executive Secretary of the Niger River Basin Authority was an appointment outside the Nigerian shores which IMAN believes will not give him ample time to attend to his duties as chairman of the Task Force at this critical time.
