The Director General, Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC), Ms Arunma Oteh will at the 2010 PEARL Awards be honoured with the PEARL Special Recognition Award for Capital Market Development.
The news of this honour was communicated to the DG when a delegation of the Board of Governors of PEARL Awards Nigeria recently paid a courtesy visit to her at the Commission’s corporate office in Abuja.
The PEARL Awards Board delegation, led by its President, Mr Tayo Orekoya included Dr. Umar Faruk, President, Association of Advancement of Rights of Nigerian Shareholders; Mr. Wole Adetunji, former Director-General, SEC and Mazi Kelvin Unegbu, former President, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.
In her response, the DG thanked the PEARL Board of Governors for the honour done her with the PEARL Special Recognition Award for Capital market development. She indicated that while quite a number of organisations had hitherto offered to honour her, she had been particularly careful not to accept just any honour.
The D-G However, she stated that having considered the antecedents of the PEARL Awards, its contributions to market development over the years and the composition of the Awards Board of Governors made of credible individuals and professionals, she accepted the honour with a deep sense of appreciation and assured the Board that she would grace the 2010 PEARL
Awards nite slated for 28 November, 2010 as Guest of Honour, in line with the Board’s invitation.Commending the PEARL Awards for its laudable initiatives towards promoting healthy competitiveness among quoted companies.
