Immediate past Captain of the foremost Lagos Polo Club, Francis Ogboro has been elected the new President of the Nigerian Polo Federation (NPF).
Ogboro who stepped down early this year after piloting the affairs of the highbrow polo centre for a decade, defeated Alhassan Baba Dantata of Kaduna Polo Club at the NPF general election that took place on November 12, 2010 at the Kaduna Polo Club.
Chairman of the Electoral Committee and former Chairman of the NPF, General M.A. Garba (rtd.) who released the official result of the poll, declared that the Captain of Kano Polo Club, Tajudeen Dantata and Bashir Yar’Adua won the seats of the two Vice Presidents in the new National Executive Management Committee of NPF.
“These results were released by the Election Committee having duly certified due compliance to all the provisions of the constitution of the Nigerian Polo federation,” he added in a statement.
According to the official result, Mohammed Baba Kyari who served as the Secretary General in the immediate past Executive Committee was returned unopposed, while Honourable Hadi Sirika was elected the Assistant Secretary.
The Patron of Bauchi Kari polo team, Abubakar defeated Honourable Ibrahim Kontagora of Kaduna Polo Club and Femi Olalele of Ibadan Polo Club, to clinch the post of the National Treasurer, just as Salmanu Tilde of Jos Polo Club won as Assistant Treasurer.
The post of the Legal Adviser went to Barrister Eddie Onah of Port Harcourt Polo Club, while the two vacant positions of Ex-Officio Members of the NPF are to be filled at a later date to be determined at the NPF General Meeting.
Ogboro who was nominated for the post of the president by seven out of the ten affiliated polo clubs in the NPF, said he was humbled by the extraordinary expression of confidence reposed in the leadership by the Nigerian polo family.
“And the first thing I say to the Nigerian polo family in accepting their charge to lead the Nigerian Polo Federation in the years ahead, is to rededicate myself and all of my colleagues in the National Executive Management Committee to the service of polo.,” Ogboro vowed.
“My task, my mission, my commitment to the Nigerian Polo Federation is to lead it to the achievement of all of the opportunities and to promote the game in Nigeria and reposition Nigerian polo globally,” he added.
