In a rare show of commitment towards development of the State, Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, has commenced a mobilization effort to get wealthy indigenes of the State pool resources together to raise N10 billion by way of private placement.
The governor’s effort is at the instance of Ambra Investicorp Trust Limited, an investment holding company promoted by League of Anambra Professionals (LAP) with a vision to transform Anambra State to the most commercialized and industrialized state by the year 2030.
To this end, the governor who has shown tremendous commitment to the vision is expected in Lagos on Saturday to engage his kinsmen in an interactive forum aimed at raising the needed funds for the numerous projects which Ambra Investicorp has outlined.The one-day programme tagged as “The Future We Deserve: A Call for Collective Action” is expected to be chaired by the chairman of Coscharis Group, Chief Cosmas Maduka.
Briefing newsmen in Lagos, the Managing Director of Ambra Investicorp Trust Limited, Dr. Ndi Onuekwusi, said that the governor would be meeting with all high net worth Anambra people to discuss this process of Ambra and development funds for Anambra State and the projects.
While emphasizing the non-partisan nature of the organization, the founding President of LAP stated that by virtue of the Governor’s position that he is a change agent, a facilitator, and a leader of the state, adding that everybody has to buy into the project and be part of it.
“The contributions we want from our people is not just money. We want money and other effort, and we want ideas. No body has the monopoly of good ideas. So that is very important.
“The activity will go round other towns like Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Onitsha, and subsequently overseas. So it is a special mobilization and advocacy effort by our governor. That is wonderful and the first in history, a collaboration between the people and their government in this new way that we must go in order to emerge as a vibrant economy”, Onuekwusi said.
According to him, the event which holds, November 20, at Rockview Hotel Apapa, will be chaired by Chief Cosmas Maduka, the chairman of Coscharis Group while it is co-sponsored by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Chikason Group, Chief Chika Okafor, and the Chairman Ekuluo Group, Chief Bishop Okonkwo, a major importer of wine and champaign in Nigeria.
It will be recalled that on March 11, 2009, high net-worth citizens of the state gathered in a ground breaking fund-raising in Lagos and at the end of the ceremony, about N1.5 billion was realized as part of the first phase projects development fund of N10 billion.
