IMPRESSED with the smooth and credible elections of Nigerian Olympians Association, NOA that brought Henry Amike as its President, Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, President Engineer Sani Ndanusa has saluted Nigerian Olympians just as he said that Nigeria was on the right track of bringing back the glory days of sports.
AIt gladdens my heart to know that you conducted a smooth, successful election that brought up credible officers who will join hands in steering Nigeria back to the pedestal of leadership in Africa and world sports@, Engr Ndanusa wrote in a congratulatory letter addressed to the President of NOA
AThis is a right step in the right direction. And I welcome you to join hands with us in bringing back the glory days of Nigerian sports. It is not an easy road. You have to work in unison with your colleagues and we at the NOC are ready to help to see that Nigeria returns to its glorious days. We shall pay more attention to the welfare of athletes and also expect you to work in the fight against drugs, Ndanusa said.
During the inauguration of the body, the Secretary General of the NOC, Mr Tunde Popoola also warned that drug use by athletes was not only dangerous to the athletes but was more damaging to the image of the country.
AWe want you(Olympians) to be at the vanguard of educating athletes on the dangers of drug use. We are working with the NSC to ensure that Nigerian athletes would not embarrass the country, again, by testing positive to banned drugs during competitions. We’re going to come out with stringent measures against drug offenders. We’re working with relevant bodies in the fight against drugs but want NOA as a partner to be of help to counsel athletes”, Popoola said
