EKITI State governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has constituted a committee to review contracts awarded during the 42-month the ousted government led by Engr Segun Oni was at the helm of affairs in the state.
The committee is made up of a 7-man team under the aegis of Contract and Consultancy review Committee. It has four weeks to submit its recommendations to the state government
Speaking while inaugurating members of the committee Wednesday, the state governor, Dr Fayemi said the measure was not targeted at probing the Oni-led administration, saying it was meant to ascertain the processes and procedure through which the contracts were awarded.
Members of the committee are, Engr. Eben Alade, a former Commissioner for Special Duties under Otunba Niyi Adebayo as chairman.
Others are Alhaji Afolabi Ogunlayi, Mr Moses Ajibola Gbadebo, Barr Kola Ajakaye, Chief Dayo Fadipe, Arch Wole Esan and Mr Akin Oso as Secretary.
Fayemi said the committee was expected to evaluate the on-going building and road construction projects in the state , adding that it would also determine whether the modality for the award followed due process of the law
The committee would equally determine whether their implementations followed proper designs and specifications as contained in the terms of reference of the contracts
Other terms of reference for the committee was to determine whether the state has value for money in the contract sum or there was over or under payment to the contractors handling these projects
The governor called on the committee to work with speed and meticulously for the overall development of the State
“This is not a probe of the past administration because that is not our focus, but to ensure accountability, fairness and equity in the award of contracts , so that this government will not deviate from its plan to commit itself to the Rule of Law and maintain transparency at all times”, Fayemi said
Responding on behalf of the committee, Engr Alade pledged that they would ensure that the task was carried out diligently in compliance with the 8-point Agenda of the Fayemi-led Administration
