•To face EFCC ‘interrogation’
•House of Reps to meet over him
Nigeria’s anti-corru-ption body says disgraced Fifa Executive Committee member Amos Adamu would be ‘invited for interrogation’ as soon as he returns to the country.
Adamu was on Thursday banned for 3 years from all football related activities and fined 10 000 Swiss francs by Fifa for complicity in a cash for votes scandal blown open by a Sunday Times sting.
Femi Babafemi, spokesman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, told KickOffNigeria.com that the Commission has been investigating the issue since the news broke and said the Fifa verdict on Thursday has solidified the agency’s position.
“This is a case that we have been working on since, and the decision by FIFA solidifies our position,” Babafemi said. “The chairman has already passed the details to the relevant unit. Whenever he comes in, he will be invited for interrogation by the commission.”
Nigeria’s House of Representatives will also be looking into the situation, according to Gbenga Elegbeleye, deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Sports.
“The committee will meet next week, and the matter will be reviewed based on the evidence.
“I cannot say for now what will happen, as I cannot speak for the committee until the meeting is held and a decision is taken.”
