Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala of Oyo State, former Deputy of Lagos State, Mr. Femi Pedro and former Minister of Transport, Mr. Ojo Maduekwe, have condemned the recent importation of grenades, rockets and other arms into the country which were intercepted at Apapa Wharf Lagos.
Speaking to Vanguard at the dedication service of the Chapel of Obasanjo’s Library project in Abeokuta, they called for more security at the ports in this era of terrorism.
Governor Alao-Akala described the situation as unfortunate and called for more security measures at the ports.
He said: “You have to be very careful with what you say because whatever you say has security implication and people are denying now that these arms were not meant for Iran.”
Also reacting, the former deputy Governor of Lagos, Mr. Femi Pedro thanked God that the arms were intercepted in the first place and called for more vigilance on the part of the security agencies.
He said: “We must give glory to God. God loves Nigeria to have enabled security agencies intercept such volume of arms.”
Ojo Maduekwe, former Minister of Transport, said: “Our agencies must be commended for the vigilance both Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Police, State Security Services, and all the other agencies that have a role to protect our nation.” By Godwin Oritse
