KADUNA—Ahead of the unveiling of a consensus candidate from the north by the Adamu Ciroma committee of Wise men and leaders, to challenge President Goodluck Jonathan in the forthcoming presidential primaries of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo, has asked northerners to ignore the activities of Ciroma.
Sambo warned that he is the authentic leader of the north by virtue of his position and described all other persons claiming to be leaders of the north as imposters.
He spoke on the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC, monitored in Kaduna yesterday.
According Sambo, Ciroma and his co-travelers are on a futile mission as the Almighty Allah is the only one capable of enthroning and dethroning any leader.
Sambo said, “today, there is no doubt and everybody knows the Almighty Allah has already bestowed the leadership of the north on me. He has made me the leader of the north politically.”
He regretted the move by the so-called northern leaders to produce a consensus northern presidential aspirant to challenge Jonathan. As Sambo put it, “when it comes to who should lead this country, our party, the PDP, has its set rules and regulations and as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic. As loyal party members, we rely on that.
“Those coming out to say they are the leaders of the north, in fact it is a big surprise to us.
“But you know we do not talk a lot. Today, Allah the Almighty has told us in our capacity as Muslims and Christians that He gives leadership to whosoever he likes and at whatever period he wants and the Almighty Allah also retrieves power.”
“Nigerians should stop listening to remarks from those who claim to be leaders of the north as what they say will not take us to the Promised Land.”
“Now that the nation has attained its 50 years of statehood, we have entered a new era and as I have reached the age of 56, some of our founding fathers who did a lot for this nation did not attain my age by the time they made this nation proud.
“They had done so much which we are still proud of. People like Sardauna and his likes. So, those things that we have embarked upon, we believe will be done judiciously and will bring growth and development to the nation.
“The programmes outlined to be executed by the Jonathan’s administration are geared toward wiping out poverty across the length and breadth of this country.”
