ABAKALIKI—THE Progressive Peoples Alliance, PPA, in Ebonyi State has accused Governor Martin Elechi of disregard to the rule of law mantra of the federal government, alleging that apart from holding council polls in defiance of subsisting court order, the governor insists on swearing in the council chairmen today.

State Chairman of PPA, Mr. Cyril Obazi, also disclosed how Governor Elechi engineered a kangaroo strike by withdrawing police orderlies guarding the judges in the state High Courts, saying the whole essence of frustrating the legal process was to get away with gross illegality of organizing the council polls with a strange electoral system.

Obazi, who spoke weekend, said the most disturbing aspect of the plot to swear-in council chairmen in defiance of court order was that the Chief Judge, Justice Aloy Nwankwo, had made himself an interested party to the case by ignoring the averments of legal counsels.

He  pointed out that on the last day of the sitting, against the agreement of the parties for November 5, 2010, adjournment, the Chief Judge postponed such a sensitive and constitutional matter to December 2, 2010.
