‘Kidnappings in A-Ibom politically motivated’

By Gbenga Akanmu
The Coordinator, the New Face of Akwa Ibom, Pius Essien, has said that kidnappings in Akwa Ibom State, were being organised  by the political detractors with the aim of rubbishing the image of the state Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio.

He made the disclosure, yesterday, while addressing newsmen  in Lagos, on the spate of what he called “politically motivated killings and kidnappings  in the state.”

Essien observed that unlike in Akwa Ibom State, kidnapping in the South East was the handiwork of hoodlums, who use it as an avenue to make easy money.

The detractors of the government, he noted, had alleged that the Akpabio government was behind the kidnappings in the state. He urged the public to be discerning and note that the Governor had expended so much resources on security and peace in the state.

According to him, “would a Governor, who has severally advocated the death sentence for kidnappers turn around to sponsor kidnappings in the state?”

He condemned the political sponsorship of kidnapping which he alleged was aimed at distracting the governor from delivering political dividends to the people.

He warned the sponsors to desist from their negative actions, adding that the governor had transformed the state should be supported for another term in 2011.
