ABUJA – The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, one of the sub-companies of the unbundled Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, has announced that it has commissioned five new power transformers to boost transmission capacity as well as strengthen the nation’s grid network.

The Company made this known in a statement signed by the Assistant General Manger, Public Affairs of the TCN, Mr. Dave Ifabiyi, and made available to our correspondent in Abuja.

It noted that the five new power transformers, including two 150MVA power transformers and three 60MVA power transformers, were recently commissioned in four cities including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

According to the statement, one of the 150MVA transformers was commissioned at the 330/132kV Transmission station in Kumbotso, Kano State on August 7,2010, at a landing cost of about N370 million, which is part of a new loan package from the World Bank.

The Company further noted that another 150MVA power transformer was commissioned at the 330/132kV Transmission station in Osogbo, Osun state within the month at a landing cost of N350 million.

It added that the newly installed 150MVA power transformer at Osogbo, was to replace a similar one that got burnt at the transmission station in December, 2009.

Also, a 60MVA transformer was commissioned at the 132/33KV Transmission Substation, Amuwo, in Lagos State last week, while the 120MVA transformers were commissioned at the 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Kubwa, Abuja on August 4, 2010.

This, the statement noted, would ensure a boost to power supply to areas of Gwarinpa, Kubwa, Dutse Alhaji, Bwari, Deidei, Karimu and environs within the FCT.
