Ilorin—Ahead of the 50th independence anniversary celebration of Nigeria,National President, Non- Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, has threatened to mobilise the leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, for a nationwide industrial action if the Federal Government fails to announce and pay the minimum wage before then.
Also, staff of the Nigerian Telecommunications Limited, NITEL, have resolved to disrupt planned activities to mark the nation’s 50th independence anniversary on October 1, over salary arrears.
Chairman of NITEL branch of the Senior Staff Association of Communication,Transport and Corporations, Mr. Uzah Francis, told reporters in Kaduna,yesterday, that the union decided on the option after all efforts to make the Federal Government pay them their wages for the past 29 months failed.
NASU’s position was contained in an address delivered by its National President, Mrs. Ladi Iliya, at the opening ceremony of the meeting of the national executive council, NEC, of the union holding between yesterday and today in Ilorin, Kwara State.
According to her, “I am aware the tripartite committee, (government, labour and NECA) submitted its report to the Federal Government several months back on the
minimum wage.”
