Lagos agog for Independence Corporate Run

Beginning from 8 a.m. today, the city of Lagos, especially from the Tafawa Balewa Square otherwise known as Race Course will witness a beehive of activities as thousands of enthusiastic Nigerians, including top executives take to the streets for the inaugural edition of the Nigeria Independence Corporate Run to usher in the country’s Golden Jubilee as a nation.

The Run organised by the Lagos State Sports Endowment Fund, LSSEF, starts at the TBS and will pass through major streets up to Ahmadu Bello Way and will terminate at the Bar Beach water front in Victoria Island.

Chairman of the LSSEF, Rear Admiral Anthony Oni (rtd) said everything has been put in place to make the 10 kilometre marathon a worthwhile event to mark Nigeria’s 50th Independence and there was nowhere else to start the race than the TBS where the British Union Jack was lowered for the Nigerian flag to be hoisted in 1960.

He expressed joy in the number of corporate organisations which showed interest in the race which will be supported by agencies like LASTMA, LAWMA, LASAMBUS, KAI, e.t.c. to make it hitch free as participants have been warned not to take part if their medical records does not support their participation.

Top among dignitaries expected to grace the race are Segun Ogunlewe, Lagos State Head of Service, Rear Admiral Oni himself, Mrs Okalawon Oni, Mr Kehinde Durosimi-Eti, the MD of Skyer Bank, members of the Island Club, Ikoyi Club Boat Club as well as Chevron and Zenith Bank which are part of the sponsors.
