PORT HARCOURT—CONTRACTORS handling projects at the new Games Village complex in Greater Port Harcourt City, Rivers State, have been told to speed up work, so that the facilities would be ready before October 1, this year.
Governor Chibuike Amaechi, who gave the order when he paid an unscheduled inspection visit to the complex, said he would personally test-use the sports facilities when completed. “I want to swim in the pool by the end of October, 2010,” he said.
He urged the contractors, who are yet to cleared their goods from the Ports, to do so immediately to enable them work towards achieving completion of the sports complex ahead of time.
The Governor, who received assurance that work was going according to specification and plan, further charged the contractors to prioritize the remaining jobs so as to beat the challenges of the raining season.
He assured of government’s commitment to the project.
