Ahead of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) primaries, a group of young residents in Lagos State under the umbrella of Fasholamania Worldwide has called on the incumbent Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State to declare if he wants to re-contest in the 2011 gubernatorial election in the state in order to lay peoples’ anxiety to rest.

This is coming even as different posters urging Fashola for second term continue to dot the major roads and streets in the metropolis.

President of the group, Mr. Olukayode Salako, made the call on Thursday at a media briefing held at Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat, Ladi Lawal Press Centre Alausa, Ikeja. The group, made up of 37 groups, said Fashola  deserves to go for second term and must come out now to declare to Lagosians who are already anxious to vote for him again in 2011.

The socio- economic life of Lagosians, and Nigerians in general, today must continue

“ Today, history beckons on us, we make bold to say that Fashola’s government remains the only positive reality the whole world is praising and celebrating in Lagos State of the 21st century, as apparently, the activities of his administration have proved that solution to the many problems of Nigeria is in the hand of a visionary, resolute, sincere and principled Nigeria.

“We hereby earnestly call on Fashola to come out without further delay just as some governors in some states of Nigeria have already done to declare publicly his intention to Lagosians that he would continue to further make himself available for the service of the people which he has already started and needs to be completed by contesting for a re-election in 2011 as governor of Lagos State,” he said.

According to him, “we call on the leadership and followership of the Action Congress of Nigeria to please give Fashola the opportunity for continuity in their next primary elections so that he can continue to govern Lagosians as satisfactorily as he has done for another four years.

“This appeal represents the collective wishes and aspirations; in fact, demand of the majority of all well meaning Lagosians both home and abroad.   Our interest is to call on the peace, sanity, law and order and security that are now the definitive characteristics of Lagos of today to continue to govern Lagos State for another term.”

Salako called on well meaning Nigerians, religious leaders and others who loved Fashola to continue for a second term to go out enmasse and register in the national voters’ registration exercise that would soon be commenced by INEC.

“We beg them to make sure they obtain their voters card so that they can vote massively for the man of the people, Fashola and his party, Action Congress of Nigeria in 2011.

“We call on Fashola to break his silence and come out publicly to give us the good news that he will run for second term,” he added.
