LAGOS — The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has placed the Tin Can Island Port on strict surveillance over a tip off that another cocaine-laden container was on its way to the country.
This is coming barely two weeks after the agency intercepted a container load of 450.400kg of cocaine, which street value was estimated at N4 billion.
NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Alhaji Ahmadu Giade, who gave the order for the surveillance yesterday, said the suspected cocaine container belongs to the Chinese drug suspects under investigation.
According to him,“documents recovered from the suspects confirmed the importation of the second container into the country by another ship.
“The shipment was successfully tracked by the agency in collaboration with the British Serious Organised Crime Agency, SOCA, and United States Drug Enforcement Agency and found to have arrived Tin Can Island Port, Lagos.
According to him, the container will be publicly examined at the port in collaboration with other security and government agencies.
