The Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Dr Harold Demuren, on Thursday assured air travellers of safe and secure flights.
Demuren gave the assurance in Lagos at a lecture entitled: “Enhanced Aviation Security in Nigeria Airports: Aftermath of Dec. 25, 2009 Attackâ€.
He said that all foreign and local carriers on international routes had been directed to acquire explosive detective system, to be used at boarding gates.
“Nigerian has established separate and dedicated screening bay at our international airports in Lagos and Abuja for all U.S. and Europe-bound direct flights. The Nigerian government has also signed an MOU with the U.S. for a reciprocal deployment of air marshals on aircraft to and from the U.S.,†he said. Demuren said that Nigeria would continue to collaborate with other countries to combat terrorism, saying the war on terror was a global phenomenon.
The President of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering, Dr Edet Amana, praised the government programme at enhancing aviation security in Nigeria. He urged NCAA not to relent in its effort to combat terrorism in the country and ensuring the security of life and property of the traveling public.
