THE 2010 edition of the International Conference on the Niger Delta, convened by Victor Ojakorotu of the Department of International Studies, Monash University, Johannesburg has been slated for August 23-24.
According to a statement by the organisers, the conference will provide an international platform for discussion of the crisis in the Niger Delta region, examine the factors that have precipitated conflict in the region with a view to proposing appropriate solutions. It will also highlight the international ramification of the crisis so as to propose strategies for their mitigation.
The conference hopes to develop a framework of action that outlines the plausible contributions of both local and international actors to the resolution of the crisis.
Key speakers at the conference include Prof. Amos Utuama, SAN, Deputy Governor of Delta State, Dr Chibuzor Ugwoha, MD/CEO, Niger Delta Development Commission, Abraham Ogbodo, Special Assistant (Media) to MD/CEO, NDDC, Oma Djebah, Commissioner for Information, Delta State and other scholars across the globe.
