WARRI—The people of Kokodiagbene Community in Gbaramatu kingdom of Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State have called for the establishment of a police post in the community to check alleged intimidation and harassment of innocent citizens and attacks on oil facilities by criminals.

They lamented that criminals  and restive youths from neighbouring  communities were taking advantage of the absence of security presence in the oil-rich coastal community to undermine the prevailing peace and security in the riverside areas of the state.

Kokodiagbene Community Secretary, Mr Sheriff Mulade, made the appeal,  during a visit to  the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ogbe-Ijoh Division, Mr. Ufot Ekim

In a  letter to the state Commissioner of Police, Mr  Mulade  promised that the community will provide a minimum of three-bedroom building to accommodate the station temporarily if approved.

“We are host to three flow stations, which include Jones Creek, the largest single oil producing field in West Africa owned and operated by Shell and two Chevron Texaco flow stations.  The community is a major source of revenue to the council,” he said.

He said such a post was long overdue in view of the dense population, abundance of economic and social infrastructure in the area.

Mulade said the community was taking the action because its indigenes are peaceful and law_abiding, adding that this disposition had placed them in a position of weakness and vulnerability to oppression by their more powerful neighbours.
