Upsurge continues, share value appreciates by N6bn

The upsurge on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) persists, Wednesday, as the value of listed equities’ represented by the market capitalisation appreciated by N6.40 billion.

In particular, the capitalisation rose by 0.10 per cent to close at N6.331 trillion from N6.325 trillion at which it opened.

Another key performance indices, the All share index rose by 0.10 per cent, garnered 26.17 points to close at 25,889.98 points from 25,863.81 points.
PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc recorded the most share price gain, rising by N1.62 to close at N34.07 per share, Chemical and Allied Product Plc followed with a gain of N1.52 to close at N31.92 per share and Glaxo Smithkline Consumer Plc garnered N0.81 to close at N30.00 per share.

Other share price gainers include: Nigerian Breweries Plc N0.72, First City Monument Bank Plc N0.38, United Bank for Africa Plc N0.14, Fidson Healthcare Plc N0.13, Guaranty Trust Bank Plc N0.10, Skye Bank Plc N0.10, Bank PHB Plc N007, among others.

On the contrary, Cadbury Nigeria Plc recorded the most share price loss dropping by N0.40 to close at N29.00 per share, Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc followed with a loss of N0.29 to close at N18.50 per share and Lafarge Cement WAPCO Plc dipped by N0.25.

Other share price losers include: Union Bank Nigeria Plc N0.24, Ecobank Nigeria Plc N0.23, Union Dicon Salt Plc N0.22, Honeywell Flour Mill Plc N0.19, Costain West Africa Plc N0.17, Juli PlcN0.16, Access Bank Plc N0.15, among others.

Equity trading plunge by 39.95 per cent as a turnover of 324.65 million shares valued at N3.11 billion was recorded in 6,979 deals, in contrast to the previous day’s turnover of 531.78 million shares valued at N4.36 billion in 7,285 deals.

The Banking sub-sector dominated the other sub-sector accounting for 60.50 per cent of the market turnover with 196.58 million shares valued at N1.60 billion in 4,210 deals.  First Bank of Nigeria Plc was the most active in the sub-sector trading 21.52 million shares valued at N301.03 million in 785 deals, Access Bank Plc followed with the exchange of 20.90 million shares valued at N193.98 million in 276 deals and Diamond Bank Plc recorded 19.89 million shares valued at N152.02 million in 144 deals.

The Insurance sub-sector followed on the sectorial analysis accounting for 16.20 per cent of the market turnover with 52.60 million shares valued at N39.17 million in 318 deals.

Mutual Benefit Assurance Plc led the sub-sector trading 20.18 million shares valued at N10.09 million in four deals, Goldlink Insurance Plc followed with the exchange of 9.75 million shares valued at N6.16 million in 50 deals and AIICO Insurance Plc recorded 5.75 million shares valued at N7.21 million in 69 deals.
