YOLA— Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, stormed Adamawa State yesterday and quizzed the State Commissioner for Local Government, Alhaji Abubakar Madawaki, and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Mrs. Gladys Delo.

10 LG chairmen quizzed

Also quizzed were ten of the 21 Local Government Chairmen in the State.
The state government officials and local government chairmen were being quizzed over alleged N22.8Billion fraud in the Joint Account between the councils and the State Government

Storms Joint Accounts meeting of the LG chairmen

The two top shots of the Ministry of Local Government were picked at the Joint Accounts Meeting of the Local Government Chairmen in Yola.

The Operatives who stormed the venue of the meeting in a Toyota Hilux pick-up van with number plate  XA96ASB interrogated the permanent secretary for over 30 minutes during which allegations were levelled against him before being allowed to continue with the meeting.

The Permanent Secretary, who looked ruffled after the interrogation told reporters that she would hold consultations with the commissioner and other top officials of the ministry on their next move.

Indications however later emerged that the commissioner and the permanent secretary may have been whisked away to the EFCC corporate headquarters in Abuja for further interrogations.

Apart from the Local Government Commissioner and the Permanent Secretary, it was reliably gathered that no fewer than ten Local Government Council Chairmen in the state were equally quizzed and interrogated over the affairs of their councils.

The Ministry officials and the council chairmen had been invited to Abuja for further interrogation, even as the state Commissioner for Information told correspondents in Yola that the state Government was unaware of the visit of the EFFCC operatives.

Meanwhile fears and anxiety have gripped other commissioners and Local Government Council Chairmen in the state whowere quizzed as sources disclosed that more arrests and interrogations are in the drawing board.
