Lambo Foundation: Contributions to neuroscience development

Lambo Foundation was founded by Prof.Thomas Adeoye Lambo MD.,PhD.,D.Sc . a former Deputy Director General of the World Health Organization ,founder of Aro-Neuropsychiatric hospital   (W.H.O center for excellence in mental health in Nigeria ) ,Ex-Chief Medical Director University College Hospital -Ibadan, former Vice Chancellor, University Of Ibadan and founder of African health Consultancy services, a philanthropist and sponsor of so many students & scientists, especially for  neuroscience development, in which he offered a six year (1986 -1992) doctoral dissertative scholarship / grant to me (Dr.Alphonsus Ekwerike) for the innovation of Neurosquatemetry & Sciencemedicine professions from the center’s 1985-1992 novel scholarly program in Neuroendocrinology & Integrative Medicine at the Endocrinological Research Centers Of Lambo Foundation and the Lambo Foundation Clinical & Acupuncture Center,Ikeja-Lagos,Nigeria, a collaborative program with the W.H.O / Chinese Government Medical colleges and some American universities and medical centers like the Mayo Clinics,etc

About Professor Thomas Adeoye Lambo:
Prof .Thomas Adeoye Lambo ( March 29,1923 – March 13,2004) was a Nigerian scholar, administrator and psychiatrist.

He is credited as the first western  trained psychiatrist in Nigeria, who turned four villages in Abeokuta into a therapeutic community that later became World Health Organization’s Center For Excellence in Brain Health ( ie Aro- Neuropsychiatric Hospital,Abeokuta,Ogun-Nigeria). Between 1971-1988, he worked at the World Health Organization, becoming the agency’s  first black man / African scientist to serve as the deputy director general.

Lambo’s patriotic instincts continued to drive him even after he retired from WHO in 1988 at nearly 65 , he continued to work full-time at the Lambo Foundation which he had set up in Nigeria in 1982.

The Foundation conducts research in psychiatry, neuroendocrinology, novel integrative medicine, offer scholarships, grants  and fund treatments for those who cannot afford it. This public service is consistent with Lambo’s commitment to good health-care delivery in Nigeria and the Third World in general.

Some of the objectives  of  the Lambo Foundation’s  programmes are: To innovate neuroscience inventive education & African oriented  health care professions with core scientific research base, that will prompt an affordable preventive health system, being effectively efficient for the eradication of diseases, poverty ,illiteracy and ill mental health, thus accelerates the continental development through neuroscience research and good evidence based integrative / preventive health education, policies & practices .Prof. Lambo’s programs were so successful that the UN produced a film of his hospital which now serves as a model for other African mental healthcare systems.

The Foundation’s Legacy is the birth of Neurosquatemetry & Sciencemedicine Professions.
Definitions:
1.Neurosquatemetry is a cognitive science for Mental Health Management
(Stress Disorders)  and Inv-ention Technology while  2.Sciencemedicine is a clinical integrative medicine that targets the disorders of the nervous and endocrine systems, employs the circadian rythmicity for its pathophysiological and pathological inferences, postulates the Pituitary / Limbic System as the center of health and integrates the most modern medical technologies and various contributions of  other medical / health specialties in maintaining and solving health issues.

It is a clinical research based profession.
It is the scholarly given opportunity and mentorship of Prof.Thomas .Adeoye.Lambo ,his wife, Chief (Dr.)Mrs. Dinah V.Lambo,
Prof.Zhang Zhoafo ,other Chinese medical researchers, Dr.Austine Loatan with other Nigerian and Foreign medical scientists at the Lambo Foundation, G.R.A. Ikeja – Lagos,that my tedious studies to innovate these, became  reality.
Prof.T.A. Lambo’s dream and wish was to have a Nigerian oriented evidence based healthcare delivery system and a scientific creative knowledge that will revolunationaize Nigerians’ quests for good health and technological advancements, and here today we have these  Nigerian born know ledge that will encode  prosperous identity to our national profile as a legacy from the Lambo foundation.

CONCLUSION: With this aim and sufficient financial support / sponsorship from the Lambo Foundation Center, Ikeja,Lagos,Nigeria, neurosquatemetry & sciencemedicine professions were innovated as  core derivatives of  the neuroendocrinologic-neuroscience for invention technology, mental health management and the evidence based integrative / preventive health qualitative study programs and professions made affordable to the poor brilliant students & People of Africa .

Let us further these studies and their endowments  by investing  in the lives of our citizens and institutions  to study them.

I am so grateful to Prof.Thomas Adeoye Lambo,his beautiful and kind wife, Chief (Dr.) Mrs. Dinah Violet Lambo, entire family and members of Lambo Foundation for their love and opportunities given to me  to see the light of knowledge and with this same LIGHT, we all can match forward together to our bright futures and prosperities.
