The President General of Uvwie General Improvement Union, UGIU, the umbrella body of the Uvwie ethnic nation in Delta State, Chief T.A. Onoge, has requested President Goodluck Jonathan to pursue the electoral reforms to a logical conclusion before the 2011 general elections to guarantee credibility especially the implementation of the one man one vote policy of the administration.

Onoge made the request at a grand reception by the Uvwie community in Abuja in honour of HRM Emmanuel E. Sideso (JP), Abe 1, Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, on the conferment on the monarch of the award of Officer of the Order of the Niger OON, by President Jonathan at the International Conference Centre.

The Uvwie leader also called on the president to leave no stone unturned in the war against corruption which he described as “a vicious cankerworm that had eaten deep into the fabric of governance in this country”. He advised the president not to be swayed by any form of intimidation, threat or blackmail but should remain focused in the onerous task of repositioning the nation.

He said, “Once the President can give Nigerians steady and uninterrupted power supply, reduce corruption to the barest minimum, pursue electoral reforms to logical conclusion and fully implement the policy of one man one vote, he would emerge the greatest ruler ever in this country and rank among the cream of legendary world leaders”.

Onoge expressed gratitude to the President for the honour done to Uvwie people by the national award given to the monarch which, he said, has moved the Uvwie community to great heights among the comity of ethnic nationalities in the world.

He added,” The honour is an indication that the darkness in Uvwie has been wiped out. For once, we are celebrating success and for a long time to come we would continue to revel in this success. It is a great thing in the history of Uvwie people”.
