YENAGOA — Bayelsa State government has vowed to tackle the challenges facing its education sector.
Deputy Governor of the state, Chief Werinipre Seibarugu, made the remark when members of the Alumni Association of the University of Nigeria, UNN, led by its National President, Dr. Nwanne Chioke, called on him in Yenagoa, the state capital.
Chief Seibarugu, who emphasised that education is key to the development and growth of any society, noted that without education, one’s efforts would be in vain. He said government was working assiduously to improve the educational facilities in the state, which is evident in the performance of students in last year’s NECO and WAEC examinations.
While commending the efforts of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, towards the educational advancement of people, Seibarugu said government would liaise with the president of the state branch of the association, Mr. Fedude Zimughan for the enrolment of Bayelsans in the institution.
He also expressed delight over the visit of members of the Alumni Association of UNN noting that they have witnessed for themselves how the state is crisis free and hospitable unlike the general misconception held people outside the state.
In his remarks, the National President of the Alumni Association, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Dr. Nwanne Chioke said they were in the state for their 73rd national executive meeting.
According to him, the vision of the institution is to restore the dignity of man and striving towards becoming a service oriented organization.
He also acknowledged that the state is peaceful having gone round Yenagoa on their arrival.
