Athletes selected after the Mobil Championships trials will resume camp tomorrow in Oghara, Delta State ahead of the African Championships in Nairobi Kenya.
The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN)Â invited 30 athletes and seven coaches for the Championships billed for July 28-August 1.
The athletes invited include Blessing Okagbare and Damola Osayomi, while Agnes Osazuwa, LaurettaÂ Ozoh and Josephine Omaka are on the waiting list. Both Okagbare and Osayomi are listed for the 200m with Endurance Abinuwa on the waiting list.
Invited male sprinters include Obinna Metu, Ogho-Oghene Egwero, Benjamin Adukwu, Fred Agbaje and Peter Emelieze.
For the quarter-mile, Sade Abugan, Josephine Ehigie, Margaret Etim, Bukola Abogunloko and Ajoke Odumosu are the countryâ€™s selected runners. The males selected but on waiting list include Noah Akwu, Saul Weigopwa, Godday James, Tobi Ogunmola and Isah Salihu.
Ishaku Mohammed is the sole male entry for the 800m while Ruth Awute Sani is also the single female entry for the 1500m event.
In the hurdles, Seun Adigun and Jessica Ohanaja are to compete in the women’s 100mÂ with Salim Nurudeen and Samuel Okon for the men’s 110m. Odumosu also returns as sole entry in her specialty, the women’s 400m hurdles.
Okagbare and Comfort Onyali will compete for the women long jump, while Stanley Ggbagbeke and Samson Idiata will represent Nigeria in the men. Tosin Oke is sole male invitee for the step, hop and jump triple jump event. Former Commonwealth Games silver medalist Otonye Iworima has another chance in camp to fight for a place in the Nairobi bound team with Blessing Ibrahim and Nkiruka Domike to battle.
The following athletes complete the list of athletes invited to the Oghara camp: Bolanle Ogun and Queen Obisesan and Osazuwa Osamudiamen (Hammer), Patience Okoro (Heptathlon) and Marian Ibekwe (Shot Put).
Coaches invited to handle the camp include Tobias Igwe, Seun Akinyemi and Daniel Etsebiminor (Sprint). Yusuf Alli (Jumps), Gad Onumaegbu and Solomon Aliu (hurdles) with Lati Obisesan for Throws. Rotimi Obajimi is to coordinate the coaches with Navy Capt Omatsheye Nesiama as Camp Commandant. Rita Akande is to coordinate the Oghara camp.
