PORTHARCOURT—TEN suspected pipeline vandals have been arrested by Police in Gokana Local Government Area, Rivers State.
Confirming the arrest, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Rita Inoma-Abbe, said the vandals also engaged in adulteration of petroleum product.
She said their lorry load of supply was impounded around Okrika Sand Field, adding that those arrested would be prosecuted soon.
It will be recalled that Commander of the Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta, Gen. Sarki Bello, had called for a special court to try those involved in illegal oil bunkering and oil vandals, if the anti-bunkering crusade is to record any success.
He said criminals exploit lapses in the law to remain in business.
Meanwhile, the Police in the state has rescued one Mrs Mary Kpagi, who was kidnapped a week ago.
Mrs Inoma-Abbe said effort was on to secure the release of the Secretary Oyigbo Local Government Area, Mr Solomon Nwanbu and one Ibitaye Samuel, who were kidnapped at a guest house in Oyigbo council.
