“I Smoke Crack Cocaine, Indian Hemp Is Too Small For Me”

Shocking revelations Of man (49) arrested with 106 bags of weeds

By Evelyn Usman
There was jubilation at Akala area of Mushin, Lagos, by some of the residents following a raid by Police operatives from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS), where a total of one hundred and six bags of weeds, suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered.

However, the four persons arrested during the raid, all claimed not to have any connection with the recovered weeds. Surprisingly, one of them, 49 year-old Solomon Ibrahim, who had lived over ten years in Italy shocked Crime Guard when he bluntly said Indian hemp was too small for him to smoke. Rather, he stated unequivocally that,  he smokes crack cocaine and is, in fact, an addict.

THINGS FALL APART
I left for Italy when I was in m y mid twenties to study Archeology. During the course of my study , I got married to a foreigner who has three children for me . But somewhere along the line, I was introduced into hard drugs and things turned for worse. Although I managed to finish school, I can not say I am an Archeologist.

When I went into drugs, I started using all my money to get it. With time, I got addicted to cocaine. I returned back to the country after the demise of my father and my inheritance were two storey buildings here in Lagos. Since my return, I have not traveled out because I realized I can not save enough amount to even travel”, said the Ogun state indigene but Lagos born .

ANYTHING GOES AT AKALA
Asked what was his involvement with the recovered weeds, he explained that he was on his way to buy crack cocaine when he was picked by th e policemen. Shocked at the response , he was asked if one could get the stuff at Mushin and he replied, “ there is nothing you look for in Mushin that you do not get. In fact,  Akala is a den for all manner of criminal activities.

I live at Anipinle street and was on my way to buy cocaine when I was arrested. When the police stopped me, I stopped and followed them. I have nothing to do with the weeds and I do not smoke weeds . I only do marijuana and cocaine”

ADVISES AGAINST TAKING HARD DRUGS
At a point, Solomon bowed his head and when he raised it up, he shook it and stated, “ I regret ever taking hard drugs. I do not advise anyone to even smoke cigaret of any kind, let alone taking Marijuana or cocaine because it is destructive. Also, one will never live to do any meaningful thing with his life. For instance, when I receive rent from the inheritance left for me by my late father, I use 90% of it to buy cocaine , all in my bid to satisfy the unbearable urge. Most times when I do not have money, I approach family members to give me. I have been in it for over twenty years and do not have anything to account for it”

His arrest by the police seem to have, at least ,brought temporal succor to his yearnings for cocaine as he claimed his system was readjusting . “ Its been a good experience being here (police station) because I have passed the yearning stage when a feeling like the whole world will crumble sets it. Presently, my system is readjusting”

On her part, 65-year Omosalewa Salako , in whose residence the bags of weeds were recovered also claimed to know nothing about weeds suspected to be Indian hemp. Even though she acknowledged the fact of being landlady of the building owned by her late father, she claimed not to know the business of other tenants.

“ Ha, look at how I am being roped for a crime I knew nothing about . The weeds were not found in my apartment. They were found in front of the compound and they are owned by some persons whose identities I do not know”.

On how that was possible, she replied, “ I usually leave the house early for my business at Oshodi market where I sell and I always come back late at night. When I saw the bags, I called the boys and told them to take them away, after which I did not see them again until the police came.

MY ARREST
On the day the Police came, I had gone to buy amala for my grand daughter and upon my arrival, some people pointed me to the policemen and they picked me. I do not smoke neither do I know how Igbo looks like.  I only own a one-room apartment in the building which is my own inheritance from my late father. Please help me beg the police to release me “, she pleaded.

The third suspect, Abdulahi Olagunju also denied ownership of the recovered weeds. According to the 45-year-old man, “ I was eating when the police came banging on the door of the compound. At that time, I saw people running out but I did not know what was happening until the banging at my door.   I later went to open the door when I sensed they could bring it down . That was how I was arrested. I have nothing to do with the weeds and I do not smoke also”

The suspects, according to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Frank Mba, would be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) from where they would be charged to court.
