ABUJA—The Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Dr. Dogo Mohammed has described as “baselessâ€, the accusation from some quarters that NHIS is a fraud.
He also challenged those pointing accusing fingers to point out areas, where the alleged fraudulent activities in the scheme are existing.
The NHIS who disclosed this to Vanguard in an interview said, “ we are interested in complains, NHIS is not interested in praises because it is our responsibility to ensure that the scheme records successâ€, he said.
While maintaining that any national assignment like NHIS is prone to criticism Dogo, said, those behind the allegation should show evidence of their claims.
“Well, you see everybody has its own opinion and I will not judge myself, I want the people to judge what NHIS is doing because I should be clouded by words. So if people think it is a fraud, they should tell us where the fraud exists, and if it is something that exists, we will look into it.
“Nigeria is a heterogamous country, where you cannot satisfy everybody 100%, and if you are given a national responsibility, which you want to deliver, you should be ready to accommodate criticism. So those who think that there are fraudulent acts in NHIS, they should tell us so that we will go and check.
“It is a national responsibility and trust where many players are involved in this. It is not a one-man job, it is everybody’s’ job. So anybody who thinks there is another way of improving on the scheme should come forward, and say it and stop laying accusation, left front and centre without providing evidenceâ€, he stressed.
