John Utaka said that it was a frustrating experience watching the Eagles crash out of the World Cup, without being able to contribute to the team.

The Portsmouth of England striker stated that he was reduced to the status of a spectator by the team coaches as he was confined to the substitutes bench throughout his team’s matches.

“I was disappointed with our performance at the World Cup, because I actually thought we could go far. The players did what they were supposed to do, but all the efforts were to no avail. I thought I was going to have a good run at the Mundial, but to my greatest surprise was not given a chance to play. I was virtually a spectator.

“I wanted to play and contribute my quota to the team. It was really frustrating, but I have resolved to put the experience behind me and move on. My major priority is to get a good club, improve my game, and keep playing for Nigeria,” Utaka said.

Asked if he expected to make the team to South Africa in the first place, Utaka said he deserved to be in the team, because he feels he still has a lot to offer the national team.

He said Nigerians should not crucify the Super Eagles for the poor show at the Mundial, adding that other big teams like France, Italy and Cameroon also crashed out at the competition.
