WARRI—A Delta Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain, Mr. Matthew Opuoru, has declared that he has the magic wand to create 10,000 jobs to tackle the twin problems of poverty and unemployment in the country.
Opuoru, who spent several years working in both the public and the private sector in the United States before returning to the country recently, in a chat with Vanguard, in Warri, Delta State, said, “In as much as I will not want to disclose my strategy for creating these jobs, I have worked out a blue print that will assist the state government create the agricultural inclined jobs so as to tackle the growing unemployment, poverty as well as reduce the over dependence on oil.â€
He is eyeing the Warri South Constituency II seat in Delta State House of Assembly on the platform of PDP.
On the controversy being generated by the two Urhobo clans in Warri as well as the purported endorsement of the incumbent member representing Warri South Constituency II in the state House of Assembly to re-run in 2011 by some ward executives in the area, Opuoru said, “I am aware of the controversy, but I am from both Agbarha, Uku family in Okere and Okere-Urhobo. I will represent the three interests and I don’t want to get into any controversy on endorsement. My interest is just what I can do for my constituency.â€
He enjoined Deltans to support the Emmanuel Uduaghan administration for its achievements despite the “decrease in the monthly federal allocation occasioned by the global meltdown.â€
According to him, “Governor Uduaghan’s infrastructural projects, free health care for children under five years, pregnant women and those above 70 years, micro and macro credit schemes as well as street beautification and peace/security are among reasons why Deltans should support his re-election bid come 2011.â€
