ABUJA—TO ensure speedy transformation of infrastructure in the Niger Delta region, the Federal Government has commenced the process that would lead to the settlement of communities whose lands and properties it acquired for the development of the region.
Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Samuel Ode said this in Abuja, during an interactive session with lawyers and estate valuers who represent the interests of land owning communities, individuals and groups in the Niger Delta region.
Ode lauded land owning communities in the region for their willingness to partner with the ministry to enable it serve as the primary vehicle for the execution of government plans and programmes for the rapid socio-economic development of the region.
He said owners of the designated properties had given their approvals for their acquisition adding that the ministry will pay compensation for physical structures, economic trees etc on the lands.
The minister asked the lawyers and estate valuers to forward the accounts and other documentation of their clients to facilitate the payments, noting, however, that the ministry would not pay for the lands themselves.
Charging the communities to always work harmoniously with the ministry to realize the objective of turning round the fortunes of the region, Ode noted that the ministry was ready to create an enduring and conducive peaceful environment for development and growth to thrive.
