The new Customs Area Controller of Badagry Area Command,Seme Border, Mr. Mohammed Sulaiman Bawa has promised to sustain the ongoing battle against smuggling while assuring that he would work hard to increase government revenue through maximum collection of duties due to it through the Nigerian Customs Service.
Bawa who disclosed this while taking over from his predecessor, Comptroller Gabriel Toba Aliu at the command headquarters in Seme, commended the Comptroller General of Customs for considering him worthy of overseeing customs operations in Nigeriaâ€˜s busiest international land border.
The new Customs boss also promised to ensure reinvigorated round the clock customs anti smuggling patrols with a view to ensuring that the nationâ€˜s economy is adequately protected from economic impact of smuggling.
He also sent a warning signal to persons engaging in various forms of anti economic vices like smuggling, unlawful concealment to evade duty payments and other sharp practices at the border to desist from it because the long arms of the law will catch up with them.
A press statement signed by the Commands Public Relations Officer,Â ErnestÂ Olottah, quotedÂ Comptroller Bawa to have assured all law abiding members of the Seme business community to continue on that part, even as he solicited for their co-operation.
He said â€œwe as customs officers are here to implement and enforce government laws as contained in the act establishing us. I urge all stakeholders to co-operate with us in the interest of the nation as we will always carry out our duties without fear or favour.
On customs community relations, the new CAC said â€œwe will continue to run an open door policy as we interface with the Obas and chiefs of the border community with a view to soliciting their susport in dissuading their subjects from smuggling and other forms of illegalities. I will be meeting regularly with the monarchs and theirÂ chiefsÂ to achieve this.
Ealier in a short remark,Comptroller Aliu,the former CAC, thanked the officers and men of the command for their co-operation during his time. Aliu also charged the officers to extend same to his successor whom he described as a thoroughbred and dedicated officer that will take the command to greater height.
