BENIN— EDO State Command of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, weekend in Benin, disclosed that it has arrested no fewer than 128 persons between January and June 2010 suspected to be traffickers in Cannabis Sativa otherwise known as Indian hemp.
The Command said that it seized a total of 70,000 kilograms of Indian hemp between March 2009 to date, adding that of the total, 25,699.34kg were seized between January and June this year.
It will be recalled that a total of 82,325kg of the illicit drug were destroyed by the Command last year.
The State Commander of the Agency, Mr. Okey Ihebom, who addressed journalists on the occasion of this year’s International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking, said that of the 128 persons arrested, 19 are females while 20 of them have been tried and sentenced to various jail terms by the courts.
