Kano — Governor Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano said yesterday that reports that one of his wives was aspiring to contest the senatorial seat for Kano Central in the 2011 polls was not true and urged the general public to count his family out of partisan politics.
Some physically challenged persons in the state had called on Hajiya Halima Shekarau to contest the Kano Central Senatorial seat.
Shekarau in a statement issued in Kano yesterday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations, Malam Sule Ya’u said his wives are “not politicians and have no desire to contest any political position.”
According to Malam Sule, “we are in possession of posters urging one of the wives of His Excellency to contest a senatorial seat. This is baseless because the governor’s wives are housewives and do not intend to take part in partisan politics.â€
It added that the posters in circulation were printed without the knowledge of either the governor or his wives. The media aide, therefore, urged those posting the campaign posters of the governor’s wife to desist from the act.
