A Legal practitioner and a child advocate, Taiwo Akinlami has asked National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Person and other Related Matter (NAPTIP) to demand that Senator Sani Yarima appeared before it with his 13-year old wife during his next visit to the agency.
Mr. Akinlami who also called for prosecution of the Senator for marrying a Minor, argued that since, the said marriage was contracted in the National Mosques in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja where the Child Right Act (CRA) is enforced, he (Yarima) has contravened the law contrary to his argument that he has not disobeyed any law.
In an exclusive interview with Vanguard, Taiwo, said for the fact that Yarima has been invited by NAPTIP, he is already a suspect, and should be prosecuted if found quality.
His words, “Senator Yarima, has not denied that he has not married a minor, all he was saying is that he has not contravened any law. Section 21, 31, 22 of the CRA 2008 is clear about child marriage and molestation. Senator Yarima contracted that marriage in FCT where the law is enforced. It is federal law passed by the National Assembly and applicable in the states… details later…
