Minister of Sports and Chairman, National Sports Commission, Ibrahim Isa Bio yesterday justified the Federal Government’s sweeping move to withdraw Nigeria from all international competitions for the next two years, to enable it reorganise the game for improved performance.
Speaking on Cable News Network (CNN), Bio, said President’s Goodluck Jonathan’s decision was in tune with the wish of Nigerians, who have been served a mixed potpourri of failure and lost direction in continental and international competitions.
“What the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has done is in tune with the wish of the sports-loving people of Nigerians, who no longer have hope in our national teams because of the dwindling fortunes when they compete in international competitions.
“The move to stay away from international football would allow us to reorganise our game and come back stronger in the nearest future. We would be better off with this decisionâ€, added Bio.
