ABUJA—Vice President, Namadi Sambo yesterday announced Federal Government‘s approval for the construction of Zungeru Dam Hydro Power Plant in Niger State, expected to generate 32 Mw.
He pointed out that the administration is concerned and committed to providing power to Nigerians within the shortest possible time, adding that President Jonathan is ready to commission hydro-power projects personally when completed.
Vice President, Sambo stated this when he met with the Minister of Water Resources, Mr. Obadiah Ando and top officials of the Ministry, who came to brief him on the activities of the ministry, especially as it concerns the provision of electricity.
He called for the construction of multi-purpose dams for irrigation, and water supply, which he said will change and impact on the lives of the huge population of Nigerians, especially those living in the rural areas, who engage in farming.
Sambo further stressed the need to urgently complete all hydro-power plants across the country, especially the Gurara Phase II, hydro-power project, estimated to generate 30mw.
