ABUJA—Justice Salisu Garba of an Abuja high court yesterday, gave the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, the nod to arraign former Chairman of the National Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, Mr. Ransome Owan and six directors of the establishment, for allegedly sharing N5 billion from the coffers of the organisation amongst themselves.
Justice Garba okayed a de-novo trial of all the accused persons yesterday after he refused to quash an amended 83-count charge entered against them by the EFCC.
In his ruling on separate applications filed by two of the accused directors in the matter, challenging the competence of the charges against them, Justice Garba, while striking-out their applications yesterday, maintained that the EFCC had placed enough prima-facie evidence before him to warrant their fresh trial.
Consequently, he ordered the embattled NERC ex-boss and his alleged accomplices to appear before him on July 14, to enter their plea.
The six directors okayed for trial yesterday are, Mallam Abdurahman Ado, Market Competition and Rates, Prof. Onwuameze C. Iloje, Research and Development, Dr. Abdulrazaq M. Alimi, legal Licensing and Enforcement, Engr. Mohammed B.G Bunu, Finance and Management Services, Engr.Abimbola Odubiyi, Engineering Standard and Safety, and Dr. Mrs Grace Eyoma, Director of Government and Consumer Affairs.
