Youths disrupt Rep’s project’s sod turning

By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN—THE member representing Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr Ifaluyi Isibor, yesterday, received the shock of his life, when angry youths stormed the venue of the foundation stone laying ceremony of a three-classroom block in Ologbo Primary School and destroyed the canopies and chairs meant for the ceremony.

The incident which occurred few minutes before the arrival of the lawmaker and his supporters delayed the ceremony for over one hour. The lawmaker and his supporters had to put a call through to some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the area, including the immediate past state representative on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Mr Mathew Iduoriyenkenwen, before his convoy could proceed to the venue, so as to avoid being attacked by the youths.

Vanguard learnt that the youths wondered why the lawmaker decided to come now for the foundation laying ceremony of the school, after three years that he was elected by the people.

One of the youths who identified himself as Osagie,  alleged that “they are just coming now to play politics with us because he wants to go back for re-election.”

But our people are wiser now. We cannot allow ourselves to be fooled again.”
However, Mr Isibor who spoke to newsmen shortly after the ceremony, explained that the project which he said would cost N8.7million, was part of his constituency projects.

According to him, “when I came here during my electioneering campaign, I discovered that the population of this school was too much and the class rooms were bad. So I decided to build a three class room block for them which is going to be furnished with benches and chairs with the head master’s office. We will also have a VIP toilet attached to it,” he added
